Marla Sweet responded by email with a canned message within one hour that my application may have been received and they were working on (fill in BS date here).

Ken Wilkinson has never responded.

If I can find 45 minutes to waste in an empty conference room this week I'll try calling one of the numbers above.

Ken did respond to me, one week after I emailed him. however his response was not canned. He took the time to explain to me what was going on and that my FP had been rejected by the FBI. I had emailed him a couple times the day he responded and he replied back to me within 20-40 minutes. They are probably getting bombarded by emails. I would hate to be their email admin.

Maybe that's good news. Perhaps he's actually doing research and preparing an answer.

I probably won't have time to call until near the end of the week, maybe I'll have the answers by then. Thanks.

Please don't abuse this information folks. These people can spend their day talking to us on the phone and responding to our emails, or they can work on getting permits to us.

Everybody (including myself) is anxious to get their permit. Using DOA supervisors as call center agents, just to get YOUR permit a couple days quicker, screws the rest of us who have been waiting in line.

I would strongly discourage anybody from pulling these supervisors away from their work unless you've gone over the average wait time (100 days or something like that).

how could the people at the doa not be the problem? What incentives do they have to work in an efficient manor? This is why if you can buy a gun, you should be able to carry it without some BS bureaucratic approval that probably only does a background check for 1 out of every 3 apps!

How about waiting 7 months? My wife called today and asked for a supervisor. The phone rep refused to put her through to one. Then asked why would she want to speak with a supervisor anyway? I sent an email to one of the supervisors listed earlier in this thread. We'll see if he responds. This is getting ridiculous.:puke

I agree completely!

Contacting a supervisor just to jump the line ahead of others patiently waiting is not cool and abusing the supervisors time.

The main problem with the huge backlog is all of these out of state applications on top of us Florida residents wanting to exercise our 2nd Amendment rights.

They need to shut down these out of state "license mills" making a buck at our expense. If the State needs the revenue from these people they should setup a separate department to process non resident applications.

If they also had a way we could check on our application status online would do away with people pestering them over the phone.

My permit took 175 days. So some of you guys who are wanting to bother DOH only after waiting a month or two need to chill out. If you don't like the long wait contact the Gov. and your State Rep. about these non resident applications slowing things down!

I have used this e-mail address with very good results and all within a few hours; [email protected] Marla Sweet

I also agree with others that a follow-up should not be initiated for at least 90 days, the added burden to answer/respond/reply to each telephone/e-mail takes away from their time to process the applications. Their policy does state a normal wait is up to 90 days, this is not normal so be considerate of their burden.

We received the BEST resolution letter ever written from Ken at DOA. He looked into Lisa's application and was able to confirm there was a delay. He apologized and then explained what happened. Like I said, it was the BEST resolution letter ever. His note went way above what we expected to hear from the DOA folks. I've never met or spoken with Ken, but I assure you, he is a true gentleman and professional. Thanks Ken.:thumsup:thumsup:thumsup

Lisa's license was issued and went out in the mail today.:dancingbanana

Actually, the efficiency of the DoA is pretty amazing. I have numbers from the last few years of licenses being issued. Last year, there were 103,699 new license issued, as well as 73,926 renewals. This was for Fiscal Year July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. The year before there were 85,937 new licenses and 21,723 renewals. I am working on a spreadsheet where I can chart the trends.

The basic problems really lies in the State Legislature. They refused the DoA's request to increase their headcount to deal with the increased workload. Think about this: What will happen when all these licenses come due for renewal? There will be 103,000 of them coming up in FY2015-2016. I am trying to find out the budget source for the Div of Licensing. IF it is solely funded through licensing fees, it should not be that hard to justify adding people.

With all due respect, one of our out of state dollars will buy just as much asphalt as your in state dollars will and there is a lot of our dollars helping keep your pot holes filled; so you'd better think that through.

Rodpumas, it seems a large portion of your posts have to do with criticizing non-resident applications as being the reason for the long delays in acquiring resident licenses. IMO your legislatures failure to provide the necessary resources and manpower to the DOA is more of the culprit.

I also believe that the 2nd Amendment pertains to all legal Americans not just to those living within the boundaries of the state of Florida. Our focus should be against those who are trying to take our rights away not those who are trying to exercise them.:usa
