As I recall, it is a minimum of three years:

(e) Has not been committed for the abuse of a controlled substance or been found guilty of a crime under the provisions of chapter 893 or similar laws of any other state relating to controlled substances within a 3-year period immediately preceding the date on which the application is submitted;

If it has all been adjudicated, then perhaps you may be able to get it sooner.

I would definitely include all copies of your court paperwork showing that everything is complete when you file your application.

Here's the one for withheld adjudication:

(k) Has not had adjudication of guilt withheld or imposition of sentence suspended on any felony or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence unless 3 years have elapsed since probation or any other conditions set by the court have been fulfilled, or the record has been sealed or expunged;

Laws are ambiguous to say the least relating to who you are and your profession, you make a mistake and your marked forever, with that being said and my background in the law profession I'd counsel you to get a big dog to protect your home, people don't realize the ramifications both short and long term once that firearm goes bang. I've seen professionals come b4 me with tears n their eyes knowning their life and assets with never be the same because they over reacted to a situation, better make sure it's a life and death situation and you can prove it without a shadow of a doubt. I tell people if you can RUN !! If not you and the perp have a serious problem ....good luck n your quest for protection but don't stimulate a situation that can be resolved with conversation ....

So invite the home invader in and have him sit at the dinner table? He might just need a hug or stimulating conversation, right?
