OK the Suncoast gun shows coming up, I finally have my CCW. whats the rule on carrying at the show?

In the past I have noticed the no loaded firearms sign and the need to have anyone selling a firearm go through get the bolt or trigger zip tied. but what is the rule on a CCW permit holder?????

I believe CC is OK but only if the gun is unloaded and tied by the guy at the door.At least that's the way it's always been in West Palm.
Rules are one thing legality is another.

That is an interesting comment.

For Instance.... Demented person pays his entrance fee, gets his M4 tied, it is cold, like it is now! He has two 30 round magazines? Hidden! goes to the bathroom, walks back in and starts shooting people!

We all conformed to the rules, (my CCW is locked in the truck) that would make for great newspaper fodder would it not?

Talk about fine line. The good news... it has not happened to my knowledge, yet.

i carried at the Ft Pierce show when it was out west of town in three buildings. The guy at the door said to just take the mags back to the car. Didn't tie it up or anything.......it was surprising. I would just carry and not tell.....

i dont have a problem with the rules as they are...i believe they are more concerned aith a negligent or accidental discharge than anything else...there are some gomers out there and in a crowded atmosphere like that you dont need guys unholstering guns to check trade values and blowing a clearing excersize by dropping the hammer on a live round...you want to see bad press for gun shows read that article the next morning...

otherwise the point of tying them off is moot anyway...there are enough spare mags and ammunition available at a gun show to build an arsenal while youre there...you dont even have to carry something in....

It's not illegal.

I'll leave it at that.

Not only is it illegal, but every show I've been to has had a huge police presence.Should you feel uncomfortable without carrying loaded,in a worst case scenario and some nut would start shooting, the first thing I'm doing is hitting the floor and seeking cover and letting the professionals take care of the situation. The last thing I want to do is pull a pistol out in a room full of LEO's when they have no clue who I am or who the BG's are.

It is not illegal. There is no Florida statute that makes it illegal.

I'll agree and stand corrected in that it is not against the law to carry concealed at a gun show. But what if the no carry loaded firearms sign has by "Order Of Sheriff's Department written on the sign? In Fort Pierce the gunshows are held in a county building. Is there a public meeting going on at the same time? Most likely not but I for one would not want to find out the hard way.

Then the Sherriff's department is breaking the law, also there could not be a public meeting at the sametime or the show could not happen.

790.33 Field of regulation of firearms and ammunition preempted.--

(1) PREEMPTION.--Except as expressly provided by general law, the Legislature hereby declares that it is occupying the whole field of regulation of firearms and ammunition, including the purchase, sale, transfer, taxation, manufacture, ownership, possession, and transportation thereof, to the exclusion of all existing and future county, city, town, or municipal ordinances or regulations relating thereto. Any such existing ordinances are hereby declared null and void. This subsection shall not affect zoning ordinances which encompass firearms businesses along with other businesses. Zoning ordinances which are designed for the purpose of restricting or prohibiting the sale, purchase, transfer, or manufacture of firearms or ammunition as a method of regulating firearms or ammunition are in conflict with this subsection and are prohibited.

Ok,so far everything makes legal sense. Now and maybe this should be in a different forum, what makes a sheriff substation? Could a county building that has an on duty deputy there during business hours be then considered a substation? I know the substations that are usually in malls ect and clearly labeled as such. But you know a sharp anti-gun prosecutor could argue that any place occupied by an on duty deputy is in fact then a substation.Anyone know of any legal precedent set on such an issue?

I got nothing on this one.... Although it seems that having an officer stationed somewhere does not make it a substation... but I have nothing to back this up

Well hopefully none of us will find our constitutional rights to bear arms in jeopardy by some quick witted lawyer bypassing the law or the spirit of the law as it was intended to be.It does look like our legislature did us all a favor by writting the law so that no other governing body or civil authority can enforce they're own version of what they want or would like the law to read. The older I get the more in awe I am of our founding fathers. The foresight our constitution and all it embodies is truly a work of beauty and art and what makes this country so great.
