I've used everything over the years from Hoppes No. 9 to WD-40.

My personal favs now for cleaning after a day at the range:

Gunslick Foaming Bore Cleaner

Gunscrubber for those tight areas

Rem Oil to keep it moving well
a dab (very small dab) of moly grease where the manual says.

Empty, (double check).
Disassemble

Foaming bore cleaner in the barrel.
Gunscrubber blast the receiver, fireing pin, trigger areas.

Patch through the bore (amazing what comes out)
Change patch. (still black)
Change patch (cleaner)
Change patch (now nice and clean)

Spray patch with RemOil and run through bore.
Spray trigger, firing pin area, etc. Wipe off excess.
Reassemble
Wipe outside with oily patch.
Reload.

Takes me about 10-15 minutes per pistol. I'll take them all apart (separate piles) and let the foam work, then start at one end and clean and reassemble.

Your method? Your favorites solvents, cleaners, oils, etc?

Love Potion #9

I still use Hoppe's #9 solvent, but the rest of my process is similar to yours. My wife and I have a "cleaning party" after our range trips when we break down and clean our guns. We spread newspaper on the coffee table, crack open a couple of icey cold beers, and unload, strip, clean, lube and reassemble.

We all know how well alcohol and guns go together.:rolf
Especially empty guns!!!!

Just an FYI, brake parts cleaner works the same as Gun Scrubber and is a lot cheaper. I'm also a huge fan of Boresnakes for cleaning lightly fouled barrels. :thumsup

+1 on the brake parts cleaner. I use Advanced Auto parts brand. Half the price of Gun Scrubber. Used to degrease the frame, springs and slide (gets rid of most of the junk

white grease (spray on) for the gun rails,
Rem Oil - for springs
Hoppes - for the barrel bore

Brass bore brush

assortment of Patches , Q tips, toothbrushes, tooth picks, clean cotton patches

The key is to use as little as possible to get the job done.

Silicon rag to wipe the gun down after reassembly

On my pistols, I use CLP after the range trip with a Tornado brush in the bore. If I really want to get the barrel completely stipped of copper, after every 3 or 4 trips to the range, I use Blue Wonder (gel) with patches. I then lightly do the bore with CLP or Hoppes. I use Militec on the rails (use just a drop and spread it with a q-tip and dry it/heat it up a little with a blow dryer).

On my rifles, I've only really used the Blue Wonder. I hunt so I want the utmost in accuracy with every shot. I use a Dewey coated rod so I don't scratch the bore.

My shotguns, I use the CLP or Hoppes with a bore snake. Well, except for the slug gun. It gets the same treatment as the rifles.

I clean my range guns about every 2 weeks. I tear them down, and clean them with kerosene to get all the powder build up off. I shoot nothing but lead, and I ues Shooters Choice and brush them out good. Patch out good with Hoppes or CLP. Oil them back up and I am good to go.

My carry or home protection guns are cleaned right after use. They are ready, and clean for the service I bought them for.

I just picked up a tube of Tetra Gun grease. Does anyone use it? I figure it would be good for the slide rail and other wear surfaces

Break cleaner for cleaning [ pass a few strokes of the brush or bore snake, then patches through ], breakfree for keeping the parts from rusting and gunslick for lubrication of slide rails, barrel hoods and other parts that rub on each other.
