City Park Carry

Are city parks considered state or government owned? I have only seen one with a CCW not permitted sign. I know they maintained and patrolled by the city.
Also one has a couple of ball fields on it. Where kids play softball.
These are NOT attached to a school. These are in neighborhoods.

The vast majority are owned by the City, County or State. There may be some in subdivisions that are owned by the homeowner's association. These would be treated like other private property.

In all cases, it is not unlawful to conceal carry (provided you have a CWFL).
It's legal.

Next question?

:D

What park in what city? I'd like to send them a letter asking for their authority to set such an ordinance.

You go Bukley, give them hell. The are not suppose to have signs up even though they are not enforceable.

What BrBoyer said.

Patrick, there is a thread about Jensen Beach having No Weapons signs up in its parks.

We had an issue here in Duval County with signs up in the county parks. One of our other resident attorneys took care of that...He hasn't posted in a while, though.
Anyone know specifics on Markham park in Ft Lauderdale?

I ask cause they do have a shooting range, & I happened to be there this weekend for a BBQ & carried the whole time.
I hate those signs. If nothing more, it make uninformed cops (NOT THE GOOD ONE'S) think such a rule can exist, and then people pull up to the park to have some fun with the kids and have to start worrying for nothing.

If we have a public park, send me a pic of the sign (so I can write a decent letter), and let me know the city or county. I'll prepare a form letter and well do some community service for our fellow gun owners.

I wonder if it's legal to hang a sign in a public park saying, "No Birkenstocks Permitted". Hmmm.
I don't see why it wouldn't be....there's no state preemption over the realm of sandals like there is firearms...it'll PO the hippies, though! :D
WHAT? I can't wear my Birkenstocks in the park??? What next? I have to give up my bell bottoms, tie dyed shirt and patchouli aftershave?:aarg
No, Capn...you're fine. Big difference between a hippie and a 'seasoned beach bum'! :D
It was me I'm the trouble maker. I have had discussions with JSO, FFW, SJRWMD and SRWMD regarding the issue and all have backed down and agreed, including understanding that the activities I was doing in some cases allowed for open carry.

The only unresolved so far is the Orlando library. I've been too busy. Post each county and we will see what we can do depending on location.
....and we appreciate the effort, fridaddy.

I knew it was you, but hadn't seen you post in a while, so didn't want to bring your name into the discussion, specifically.
Hmmmm...No Birkenstocks???? Next they will be telling us no syntheticstocks either........LOL

synthetic stocks are the devil - both in long guns and pistols.

They should be banned. There ought to be a law......

Mr. Buckley,
Have you tried this in our home County? Just curious.

No, never had the chance. What park has the sign? We generally find ourselves at Lakes Park.

You wear Birkenstocks, bells, a tie dyed shirt and you still SHAVE? My God man, next you'll tell me that you cut you hair, too.

I havent noticed any myself, but had a friend of the LCSO that stated "you cant carry in the parks where youth athletics are being played". I will check my "stomping grounds" tonight.

FOOTBALL CAMP STARTS TONIGHT!!!! THANK GOD! :thumsup
I live in NC. The sign was out towards Cherokee. Some little park out there. I know it was close to the Pisgah National forest (park/forest rangers patrolling) Not that that means anything.
It was the only sign I (remember) ever seeing. I don't have a pic. I don't know if it is enforceable or even still there. Has been 3 years ago.
Thanks for the responses.
