Having a picture of your firearms showing serial numbers on your phone. Good idea (just to have a record on hand) or bad idea?

I have a hand written list of make, model and SN in a safe place.

I have no issues with pictures showing serial numbers.

Same here. I don't think I would keep the list on my phone.

I agree. I would never take pics of the serial numbers. If I were going to post the pic somewhere, I'd blur out the serial number, or I'd blacken it out so it doesn't look blurry, or I'd position the pic such that the number is not seen (framed out, etc.). .

It is getting pretty hard to read the smeared ink ever since that boating accident...

The way I see it, ANY pic taken with a cell could possibly be seen by others and possibly made public. That's just the way it is. Storing them on a phone makes it more likely.

If that's a concern then don't do it.

A good balance might be digital pics of the firearms burned to a disk or flashdrive and kept in a separate safe place. A disk might be better as a flashdrive can fail.
