My bet is that this will get rescinded as soon as the annointed one takes office. I haven't heard much of a stink about it in the MSM so maybe it will fly beneath the radar for awhile. I just can't picture Obama (who is anti-carry) permitting the Bush rule change to stand.

Many things will have to be undone after the next 4 years. I hope I'm wrong about this. I like the feeling of just getting up and strapping on the rig and go wherever I please without worrying about where I'm going to carry. I think this is the called freedom.

I suspect that Obama will have his hands full without worrying about us. I don't think it will be as bad as some folks fear. At least I hope not.
I usually do not get involved with politically inclined conversations because everyone has their own opinions. But I think I would agree on Steve48 on this. Especially with the big 3 automakers trying to get a piece of the "bailout pie" right now. I think because we are (and they are admitting to it now) in the big R, recession, the next four years will be spend trying to turn the economy around and controlling crime since it is what is on the increase now. And knowing there are concealed carry law, abiding citizens our here that will fight for our 2A rights is not as important as getting the economy turned around.

Could be. But he backpedaled pretty quickly after his remarks about guns and religion brought a bunch of heat on him. I'm hoping that he decides not to get burned again any time soon.

"The park rule will be published in the Federal Register early next week and take effect 30 days later, well before Obama takes office Jan. 20. Overturning the rule could take months or even years, since it would require the new administration to restart the lengthy rule-making process.

Nick Shapiro, a spokesman for President-elect Barack Obama's transition team, said no decision had been made on the gun rule.

"President-elect Obama will review all eleventh-hour regulations and will address them once he is president," he said."

I also have a feeling that this is the sort of thing that is relatively easy to try to overturn, even if it takes a while, plays well to the anti-gun crowd, and also plays well to the crowd that will take great joy in overturning something that the "evil Bush" did in the eleventh-hour.

Hold on cause it might be a bumpy ride for the 2nd Amendment the next few years.

I just want to ask a question about the topic of Obama banning concealed carry.
As i understand it, our right and license to carry concealed is issued and controlled by the state of Florida, not by the federal government. If it was controlled by the federal gov't, then every state would have to allow CCL.
So am i right in thinking that even if Obama decides to do away with CCL, can't Florida just continue to allow CCL? i think that it is up to the state to say what can and cannot be done in the state, i.e. Prostitution in Nevada? marijuana in Minn?

Just wondering.....

I think you're right. The concern earlier in the thread was more about him changing Bush's new rule about carrying in national parks. Of course, Congress could try to make laws overturning state laws about CC, but that would be a harder thing.

The federal government banned alcohol and certain weapons.

The federal government forced the states to adopt the 55mph speed limit. If the states didn't participate they didn't get federal highway funds. What if they did the same with federal housing funds?

The congress has the power to regulate interstate commerce which means they can ban the transport of any weapon designed for concealed carry across state lines.

There are a lot of things they can do. The question is which ones will they do.

Obama may have bigger fish to fry, but a lot of his appointed officials are working on gun bans. The biggie will be high capacity feeding devices and semiautorifles. On the parks carry issue remain alert and write your congressional & senate representatives on this.

Right now both local and national media are starting an assault weapons feeding freny again. Another foreign terriorism act would likely help us relative to carry laws and a domestic based non-muslim event would hurt us like another school shooting.

we must, as gun owners, stick together when we vote. we need to let the president-elect know that in florida alone, there are over 550,ooo concealed license holders, not to mention NRA members. this is enougth to turn any election in florida. and i'm sure this is true in the other carry states.
good hunting

I will say this.

I have never been more afraid for my 2A rights than I am right now.

We must get NRA membership up. We need political clout. Gift a membership to all your friends, get them reading the magazines.

It will take more than just worried talk. It will take time, money and effort. I've put my money where my mouth is. Have you?

Note that is a general question not directed at any one person.

I think Obama is going to do ok (not great) as president. This is coming from an constitutionally ultra conservative voter who wrote in Ron Paul in my home state of Vermont. If you look at his cabinet choices he has been very centered. I don't think it will be an automatic pen stroke for the likes of Feinstein, Schummer or Boxer (spearheaded by Bloomberg). I think Obama is smarter than that, and won't be told how to vote by the ultra left. In fact he has already pissed them off by his cabinet choices. I wish he had kept Rice on too, but that topic is for another board. Like the other poster said he will be too busy trying to undo the mess that will be inherited from Bush/Clinton. I suspect another Clinton style AWB might make it through, but like Dean he will leave CCW up to the states. We had a FEW advances with Bush like NP carry and protection from confiscation during disaster, but why did the LEO's get national carry and not civilians? Where is the national push for stand your ground laws? Our biggest problem is still violent crime, not invasion, and realistically... a pistol carried concealed or 12 gauge are the best tools for the job, not AK's or AR's. For all you AW enthusiasts.... just stock up on AR mags just in case! Citizens should have un-restricted access to any weapons/mags/ammo common to LE (IMHO). I hope Ron Paul will be a barking watchdog for our freedoms:
