I was wondering if anyone carries an SBR on a regular basis. Obviously, when I say SBR, I mean an SBR you have obtained legally following all NFA rules. I know some of you are thinking why would you need an SBR but there are some people out there who worry about having enough firepower with them just in case.
From what I have been able to gather from conversations with others and from reading Jon Gutmacher's book, there is no case law in Florida making it illegal. What do you think? Do you believe a Florida CWP holder with a legally obtained SBR is allowed to carry an SBR on or about their person?
What about having it loaded at home, taking it with you in the car and to your place of work/business and back home?
Let me know your thoughts.

The only class of firearm authorized for concealed carry under 790.06 is a 'handgun':

790.06 License to carry concealed weapon or firearm.--

1(1) The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is authorized to issue licenses to carry concealed weapons or concealed firearms to persons qualified as provided in this section. Each such license must bear a color photograph of the licensee. For the purposes of this section, concealed weapons or concealed firearms are defined as a handgun, electronic weapon or device, tear gas gun, knife, or billie, but the term does not include a machine gun as defined in s. 790.001(9).

As Rvrctyrngr pointed out, a Florida CWFL allows you to carry a handgun concealed, and SBRs (and SBSs, for that matter) are considered long guns. On the other hand, I'd suppose that it would be perfectly legal to carry something like this, since it is defined as a pistol...

The question I want answered is would it be legal to carry something like this concealed? :D

As RCR pointed out, your CWL does not authorize you to carry a SBR. But why would you want to? Compared to a handgun, a concealed SBR would be uncomfortable to carry [not only is it heavy, but you would die wearing a trench coat in the Florida in the summer], slow to deploy, difficult to control, would produce a blinding and deafening report and present significant over-penetration problems. If you legally own an SBR, carry it on your own property, if you like. If you think that you might need more firepower than is available from a handgun, then I would suggest that you carry your rifle or shotgun in your vehicle, where it will be nearby should you need it.

My question is not about carrying an SBR concealed. You would have to be a special person to be able to pull that off in this state.

Do you believe that it is legal to carry (in a backpack or other bag), a loaded SBR or a rifle for that matter from your house to your car, place of business and back? This would not be your primary weapon but more of a fall back defense in case the fight lasted longer than the 3 mags you have on you. Can you keep a loaded SBR or rifle in your office at your place of business that you own?

As long as you have the requisite paperwork, I suppose it would be legal for an individual to possess any class 3 item anywhere that it would be legal for them to possess any other firearm.

sweet P556 .. it is a pistol, and a rather bad ass one at that. You can most def hook a single point sling onto that puppy and hang it down underneath your right arm. I plan on doing it w/mine just for fun when it gets cooler and I can wear a windbreaker..

Yup!!! Legally, it IS a pistol, and thus I can wear it, or have it loaded in my car beside me, covered by a towel or something... yet it has the ballistics of a rifle round (.223 or 5.56)!!

Some people want to SBR theirs, but I would hate to have to ask permission just to travel to another state with it, etc... PLUS, I couldn't even carry it in other states that recognize my Florida CW license, since it would then legally become a rifle...

The fun thing is that once the new law goes into effect next February, you can carry it concealed even in Federal parks, and the Feds can't do anything about it, since it IS a pistol, and thus protected for concealed carry under our licenses!!!:dancingbanana

Just out of curiosity, though, I would wonder about reactions from LEOs in states where open carry is legal.... when they say open carry in those states, is that only for hanguns, or does that ALWAYS includes rifles too?? Hmmm:confused:
