With so many ammo choices and articles about what is the best ammo for self defense I would like to know what type of ammunition is carried the most and why.

My primary concealed carry is a .40 S&W. I also have a full sized 9mm but it is a little harder to conceal so I only carry it in a fanny pack.

I just like the 10mm...only one so far on this poll though...personal defense loads from DoubleTap have fantastic ballistics...and are not cost prohibitive...
I carry either this,

Caliber : 10mm
Bullet : Speer Gold Dot JHP
Ballistics : 165gr. @ 1400fps/ 718ft/lbs- Glock 20
Glock 29 - 1345fps

or this

Caliber : 10mm
Bullet : 135gr. Nosler Jacketed Hollow Point.
Ballistics : 1600fps / 767 ft.lbs. - Glock 20

the big and slow versus, small and fast argument is so involved I thought I would try to find the middle ground...pretty damn big and pretty damn fast!
Just my preference...

I voted 9mm because that's the caliber that my pocket gun (Kahr P9) is chambered in and that's what I'm most likely to be carrying on me. I usually have a .40 S&W full-size service pistol (Glock 22) in the truck and on the rare occasion that I actually strap on a OWB holster to go out in public, I carry the G22 then as well. But I may start carrying my new Kimber 1911 in .45 ACP once it's fully broken in.

Not to mention the occasional .380 ACP or .38 Special as a BUG.

So many great calibers...it's a shame to settle on just one. :pistols :D

Lately, it's 45acp in a glock 21sf or Sig 220 "carry" model. Carried 1911's for over 20 years back east, but I don't carry weapons now that require manipulation of a safety to get into action.

I'll carry 9mm more often than anything else in a g17 or g19 usually. Only carry the Win Ranger T 147 standard loading in 9mm. San Jose PD also carries that load in their g17's and have great results on the streets. First 6+ shootings with that load only required one round to end the festivities.

I have been looking for a smaller weapon to carry now that I have my permit. I have been keeping my Walther p99 in the glove box and it is just to big to conceal easily. I thought that I would need to go smaller possibly even a 380 until I found a Taurus Millennium in 9 that I liked. It is a medium frame and while not small it is easier to conceal then the p99. While talking to the salesmen I was told that this was also available in 40 and 45 for the same price. (329) I figured I might as well get the most bang for my buck. (pun intended)
