Title XLVI
CRIMES Chapter 790
WEAPONS AND FIREARMS

790.001 Definitions.--As used in this chapter, except where the context otherwise requires:

(2) "Concealed firearm" means any firearm, as defined in subsection (6), which is carried on or about a person in such a manner as to conceal the firearm from the ordinary sight of another person.

(3)(a) "Concealed weapon" means any dirk, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie, tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon carried on or about a person in such a manner as to conceal the weapon from the ordinary sight of another person.

(13) "Weapon" means any dirk, knife, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie, tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon except a firearm or a common pocketknife, plastic knife, or blunt-bladed table knife.
To reduce your exposure to a liability suit you might want to take a class for it before you carry an ASP. Any Joe average with no former training (military, police, security) will get eaten alive by any decent lawyer if you use it on someone.
Just my $.02
As opposed to shooting them?

Just shooting them is applying deadly force to stop the threat. Beating someone to death with an asp unintentionally because you lacked training is a vicarious civil lawsuit and probably manslaughter.

Again just my $.02 :)
Asp

The class will teach to hit soft points on the body but staying away from the throat. However, alot of that backfires because if you don't train w/ it alot, when it hits the fan, you are more than likely just gonna swing.

I have used a SureFire for compliance with offenders (suspected... LOL.) and avoided using my stick or ASP.
Thanks guys for all the inputs. I agree if you are going to carry an ASP or any weapon you should have training. I'm not worried about the proper application of force with an ASP. I have practiced Karate and Kobudo (Okinawan weapons ) for over 15 years. I really don't plan on carry an ASP. I assumed it was legal with a concealed carry permit. I just wanted confirmation. I also like leaving all my options open when it comes to self defense. Regards.
