The cop already knows you probably have a gun because your permit shows up on his computer when he checks your license.
I got stopped at a check for insurance and D.L. and when the young cop asked if I had a firearm I said yes and told him about the 6 or 7 I had and he called his sergeant who came over and asked what I was doing with all the guns. I said I'm going to the range to shoot some of them.
He told me to have fun and have a nice day and I was on my way.
I know it is none of their business but I have absolutely nothing to hide and it is much easier to just comply and be on your way then to argue how many rights you have.
This is 2021 now and the rights we once had are so covered up with laws and crap, Most are just useless.
And the next four years all rights will be gone with the Socialist, Communist freedom hating Democrats running America.

PS:
One big problem I see is most cops do not know how to safely clear a gun,
I seen one on Live PD that racked the slide and then dropped the Mag and thought the Glock was empty with one still in the chamber.
I seen them have a gun pointed at themselves while racking the slide and a few had gloves on.
I was watching a lot of Live PD and I always did watch COPS.

Actually, that's not why I started the thread. 😃

If you look at the graphic below the name "Joe," it says "Florida Concealed Carry." it also says it in the two seals impossed on the video. I was wondering if the video (and the person featured in it) were, somehow, related to this forum....

Ronnie that’s not true. Law Enforcement in Florida have to run your concealed carry permit by the department of agriculture to find out whether it’s good or not. It is illegal in Florida for the government to keep a list of gun owners. The police do not have a central clearing in CCP.

Bob and RadTek are correct! DOACS does keep a database that Law Enforcement can get to, but it's not immediately accessible and access must be requested by Law Enforcement in the course of an official duty (e.g., an investigation of potential criminal activity), not something that automatically pops up on a Florida Driver's License check. See Florida Statutes Chapter 790.0601(3)(c):
790.0601 Public records exemption for concealed weapons.—
(1) Personal identifying information of an individual who has applied for or received a license to carry a concealed weapon or firearm pursuant to s. 790.06 held by the Division of Licensing of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is confidential and exempt from s. 119.07(1) and s. 24(a), Art. I of the State Constitution. This exemption applies to such information held by the division before, on, or after the effective date of this section.
(2) Personal identifying information of an individual who has applied for a license to carry a concealed weapon or firearm pursuant to s. 790.0625 which is held by a tax collector appointed by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to receive applications and fees is confidential and exempt from s. 119.07(1) and s. 24(a), Art. I of the State Constitution. This exemption applies to such information held by the tax collector before, on, or after the effective date of this subsection.
(3) Information made confidential and exempt by this section shall be disclosed:
(a) With the express written consent of the applicant or licensee or his or her legally authorized representative.
(b) By court order upon a showing of good cause.

(c) Upon request by a law enforcement agency in connection with the performance of lawful duties, which shall include access to any automated database containing such information maintained by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

History.—s. 1, ch. 2006-102; s. 1, ch. 2011-136; s. 1, ch. 2014-206; s. 1, ch. 2019-34.

Thanks for the information.
I STAND CORRECTED
Ronnie

PS: I know I do have the problem of respecting the Police and do think they have a dangerous and pretty thankless job.
I will comply to what they ask even if I know it is legitimate for them to ask me.
I really have never met a bully or bad nasty Police Officer even in my old Biker Days.

BttBob is correct. I stopped one of the local news stations a number of years ago when they were trying to expose the identity of all weapons carry in orange county. They decided that they didn’t Want to get sued by a lawyer that would spend whatever time necessary for free to see that they were slammed. I remember telling them that thieves might likely want to look at home addresses of gun owners for purposes of robbing them, I would consider the fault of the local TV station.

I watched the video. It was a nice discussion but I’d be hesitant to suggest people take legal advice from gun shop owners. For practical purposes he’s pretty much correct. However, your right to decline a search of your vehicle or an officer going into your trunk does not emanate from a right of privacy but, by the provisions of the fourth amendment.

With respect to telling the police you are armed, I’ve always had heartburn over lying to the police for anything. Maybe it’s my background but, you’ve got to make a personal and practical assessment of the situation. If the officer looks like a nervous rookie, If he is one of those guys who acts really angry because of your traffic violation or if he just seems like a polite professional doing his job, you might choose a different response. The fear I have for Citizens is if the officer discovers the weapon as a surprise, you may have placed yourself in significant risk of even getting shot.

Interactions with the police are just like interactions with any individual having some degree of discretionary power over you. If I represented a friend in a traffic case and didn’t know the judge, I would go early and sit in the back and watch the judge to try to determine what kind of person he was to tailor my argument to his personality.

BttbBob had an encounter a while back and, although the police were overreaching at the traffic stop, he handled it appropriately by bringing it to the attention of superiors after the heat of the moment. You generally can’t win an argument with a police officer out on the street.
