Wondering about tactical firearms classes you may have taken.
How many hours or days was it?

Did you have enough hands-on practice?

Did it involve movement or was it a static range course?

Was it conducted safely and professionally?

What did you get out of it?

Are you planning on taking another?

Thank you

I've take a couple. Most recently was Randy Cain's Tactical Handgun 101 at Southern Exposure Training in Lakeland. It was a great class. 3 days, 8 hrs a day. 400+ rounds down range. Probably the best class I've taken. Randy is one hell of an instructor, and the class was just plain fun.

Yes, it was conducted safely and professionally. No high-speed-low-drag-nylon-ninja stuff, just good, basic instruction with lots of practice and follow up.

This class should be required for anyone desiring to carry a firearm for self defense.

Aside from Randy Cain, Southern Exposure hosts some of the finest instructors in the country (Bill Jeans, Louis Awerbuck, Steve Tarani, Scotty Reitz, etc...).

Check them out:

I took a 2-day class with Bill Jeans (formerly of Gunsite) several years ago. It was pretty basic but I definitely learned a few things that stuck with me (like always check your six and flanks after any engagement, and learn to reholster without looking). Plus we got to do a night shoot, which was very cool. I definitely became sold on tritium sights that evening. :thumsup
