Man these guns are effing monster's! Been looking at the S&W and the Taurus, not sure how many other companys make this beast of a caliber but holy hell. Im sure the Youtube video's dont do them justice. I could see someone with a crossdraw sholder rig CC'in one of these.

I mean really, as long as you aim general direction the fricken shock wave would knock someone over. :laughing , but honestly if i do buy one for hunting, (witch i just may have to) it will be my personal challenge to find a good spot to CC one. I cant see it being possible without a cover garment like a jacket or something though. We shal see, anyone on the forum pack a (huge cal revolver) like .44 mag or bigger? :drinks

Trying to conceal carry a gun that large is pretty impractical. After you get over the charm of staring at yourself in a mirror and doing your Dirty Harry impression, the reality of carrying a 56 oz. revolver (the 4" model) in Florida will quickly set in. That is like carrying two loaded Glock 19's, or three unloaded 19's.

The other negatives are effective control of the weapon and follow up shots if needed. I will not even get into the topic of having to potentially defend yourself in court should you ever need to actually fire that weapon.

IMHO, save that for hunting and stick to something more effective and practical for concealed carry. If you are hungering for something hefty and very effective, .40's and .45's will give you more than enough firepower in a smaller and lighter carry package.

FYI, I always found this video to be a great S&W 500 Magnum demo.

Interestingly enough, Clint Smith is a proponent of using the S&W 500 as a defensive sidearm, albeit loaded with the new .500 S&W Special cartridge. But I think you'd have to be wearing a down parka to conceal one. :laughing

A little Much for my taste. I have a 460 S&W that I will carry if I'm going into Big Bear Country. I hate to imagine what a 50 would do to the Human Body. The 50 S&W has killed Elephants, Rhino's and would seriously wound a T-Rex. I've been "On Scene" after a person was shot with a 44 Magnum, Not Pretty, and don't plan on hearing for a week after firing the 50 without serious hearing protection. A deaf person can hear the Blast.:rolf

My cousin has a S&W .500 4" barrel. fun gun to shoot. But not practical for CCW. Way to heavy and bulky. And the kick could dislodge the gun from your hand in a situation where you are pulling and shooting. Its THAT powerful. My cousin had CCW in AZ years back. And he told me he would carry that gun. Thats what our Glock 30's are for. :pistols

I agree with pretty much everyone else here. Unless you're the size of some of these professional wrestlers, you're not gonna be able to conceal it. Then of course there is the issue of using the weapon and the VERY real possibility of the round completely penetrating it's intended target, and striking an innocent individual behind him.

I see it as a legal nightmare. If I were on the jury I would have definite doubts as to the persons consideration for the safety of innocent by standers and I am a CWFL holder. That round has the potential of going through the BG and hitting someone clear accross the Wal Mart parking lot. Not good when you have to tell the judge, "well judge I had to shoot in self defense. He pulled a knife on me. I really didn't mean to hit the mother and her baby in the other parking lane. And its not my fault that old lady was opening her door behind the mother and baby. And who would have known that deaf guy would pick that very moment to hand the old lady a card asking for donations? And I certainly can't be blamed for a ricochet off the deaf guy that hit that driver who lost control and plowed into the old couple crossing the street." Bling, Bling, Bling, Bling That's a Ricochet Rabbit shot!!
