Ammo rotation

How many times should a round be chambered, and then unchambered. I know it needs to be rotated so that you are not chambering the same round, but how many times can it chamber before you start pushing the bullet into the casing, making it unsafe?

Debatable. I'd say every 4-5 times it's chambered. But it really depends on your ammo & gun. Some may suffer from bullet setback more then others.
Personally I chambered the same round 25 times in my G27 & saw no difference from a new bullet.
I change mine out every week

I have also measured my first round with a micrometer and compared it to the original length ! So far I havent seen a change in length ,but I change it out anyway because i can feel the edge of the case neck with my thumb ! Since the round headspaces off the case mouth in most auto pistols I feel safer just changing it out on a regular basis ! I am probably clearing the weapon about 2 to 3 times a day , so after about 20 cycles it gets changed ! Kevin

Just out of curiousity, why are you clearing your weapon 3 or 4 times a day?
i clear it when

I clear it whenever I come home ! I supose it is because I am relatively new to carrying an auto and It makes me feel better ! Whenever i pick it up I load and lock and holster it ! I guess it helps me get used to the gun ! Kevin

Every time you clear and then recharge the firearm creates another chance of a negligent discharge. It's safer to leave the weapon loaded.

I agree !

I agree that the that there is a potential for neglegent discharge ! However ,I frequently (daily ) handle the weapon in my free time and use snap caps for practice and also practice drawing from concealment ! It is new to me and my intent is to become intimatly accustomed to handling it ! I promise I will be carefull to avoid a ND !! Thanks guys !! Kevin
Remember the 4 rules of gun handling. Practicing with snap caps is good training, dry firing is good training. Just remember to dry fire at something you don't mind destroying......just in case. It does happen, even with the experts.:thumsup

I cant help it i practice dry firing at the TV !! You guys outed me !
