Alachua County Feed & Seed on 6th St. near 23rd Ave. in Gainesville had six boxes Fiocchi .38 special this evening. They also had 4 boxes Remington 9mm and two boxes Federal American Eagle 9mm. He also said he had a couple of boxes .45 ACP.

The Remington 9mm was $30 & change for a box of 50. I didn't check the prices on the other ammo. They are open from 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

I check WallyWorld just about every day. The ones open 24/7 in town don't answer the phone before I leave for work at 7:00 AM and by the time I get off work I'm told "we sold our only box this morning." Apparently they get one box of .38 special one night a week but don't know which night it might come in. I know the Feed & Seed is overpriced but I haven't seen any handgun ammo in town for several weeks.

The Fiocchi is not reliable in the Taurus .38 with the spurless hammer. It works just fine in the S&W though. I want to try some Federal and/or Winchester before I decide the problem is with the Taurus.

Ammo that isn't reliable in a revolver? What's going on with that? What exactly happens, if I may ask?

The combination of european hard primers and a weak trigger spring is the likely culprit here.

I think Brownie nailed it. Light hits on the primers, whether caused by hard primers or light spring combined with less mass to the hammer is the culprit.

The revolver is new and I still need to take the side plate off and clean out the Taurus grit and smooth the action. That may help some.

This is as close a picture as I can find. It's a model 85 Ultra-Lite but it says "Taurus" instead of "Titanium."

i have a Taurus 85 concealed hammer just like that (only stainless version) and i have similar problems with some types of ammo. just puts a dimple on the primer but doesnt fire it, most of the time the second strike will fire the round.

Ouch. I'd really be concerned about that for a carry weapon. I have a Dan Wesson that hits the primers light when fired double action, but I use it strictly as a single action target gun. I expect better from my carry gun.
