9mm give me 3 extra rounds, but 40S&W has about 15-20% more umph.
I like my 40 but will also carry my 9 without hesitation.

Remember, its now what you shoot but where you shoot'em!

.40 I'm a fan of recoil/snappy, I guess. I shoot my PPS once a week to keep in tune.

I chose a 9mm..Didn't like the flip and snap of the 40 Glock that I shot..The 9 is smooooth..Ammo more readily available, to date, as well.
Really? I can get .40 at WallyWorld all day long. Have seen 9mm there once in the last 9 mos!

To the OP, whichever I grab on my way out the door.

See, that's so strange. It really shows how things can be so different for one person than the other...I've found the .40's I've fired, inlcuding a Glock recently, to be LESS "snappy" than the different 9mm's I've owned over the years. Maybe I'd call it more deliberate..but, not snappy...I find the 9's to be more snappy and twitchy to me. I was shopping for another 9, but, stumbled onto a .40 for a deal I just couldn't pass up..now I'm absolutely in love with my .40SW.

Again, that's why it's so important to make your own choices based on your own needs. Nothing wrong with research, but, obviously, what works for me, won't work for someone else..:thumsup

I prefer the 9X19 to the .40 S&W. They're neck and neck in terminal performance but the 9 gives you a higher magazine capacity and faster followup shots.

.............. and I carry a .45acp :D go figure.

I agree with you. I have always preferred my 40 to my 9 in my new model MxA1's. Now my Steyr GB, that this is just so sweet. I dont care that it is 9 as it holds 18+1.
Now I still do and will always love me a 1911 in 45. I would really like to try the FN-45!!
Overall I think the 357sig is the best compromise between performance and number of rounds, IMHO.

The 40 S&W is a compromise between the 45ACP and 9MM. I carry a Glock 23. What it comes down to is what are you comfortable with and which caliber can you shoot best. How well you can shoot the round may determine the outcome of an SD situation.

Also, from what I've seen on the Springfield Armory site( forum , not the factory site), the 9s are almost free of any malfunctions while there are constant reports of FTEs and jams with the 40s. I don't know if that is just this particular make of gun OR is true of other manufacturers models that are similar designs in different calibers. Specifically, I am referring to XDMs.

Typically, owners report thousands of rounds through the 9MM versions without mishap but lots of reports of problems with the 40 versions. Some posters have indicated that was true of other makes they owned too. Not saying that it is true, just the impression I got from reading several threads.

Both. I carry a G23 (40SW) most of the time. And on the days i have a quick errand to run or am in dress clothes i can switch out and carry my PF9. Both shoot very well. Now on the other hand my wife prefers her PT111 (9mm) over my Glock or Kel Tec.

But as long as the rounds land where they are supposed to. And it is a gun that fits your needs. Then that is the correct caliber for you.:dancingbanana

I carry 9mm, don't have a .40 cal in my armory. Nothing against the round but I can only afford so many calibers in my ammo dump!
I also carry 9x18, .38 and .45 :pistols

The choice is yours, which do you pick for EDC ?:popcorn
9mm
It's what I have for EDC now, and I wouldn't trade it. There is a lot of talk about stopping power, etc, etc, however I think it will stop just fine if I need it to.
