I was recently requested by a member to see if I could locate data on the various causes of death for the State of Florida, and to determine what rank firearm homicides were.

Next time someone tells you that firearms kill too many people, you can tell them that more people fell to their death than were killed by a firearm in 2006.

The most recent information I could find was from the Center of Disease Control for the year 2006.

Well, not exactly, when you figure that 1112 people lost their lives due to suicide by firearm. Only 737 were murdered by firearm. And I'd guess that at least a few of the "Homicide Unspecified" deaths were also firearm-related.

Not to play devil's advocate, but still a lot more people die in MV accidents than by guns.

Homicide and murder are not the same thing. Those 737 deaths would also include self-defense shootings.

Can you find out how many murders or deaths were committed by inmates in the Florida prison system while they are imprisoned. I would consider the prison system as the most government controlled environment that the government has. No guns, knives or deadly weapons allowed inside a prison. So how many inmates are attacked and how many are killed by attacks from other inmates, and what kind of weapons do they use since firearms have been banned in prison? Another words, prison is an unarmed society, so how do they still kill each other? It seems that they still come up with ways to inflict injury and kill. knifes made out of toothbrushes and stuff.
This would be a way to prove that taking guns away will not stop crime, because criminals will always find a way to injure and kill.

Good point, we would do cell searches and find all types of contraband. Common weapon was a shaving razor blade melted on a toothbrush handle.
or a piece of metal sharpened from a mop ringer.. They get creative...
