    Car as cover

Most handgun rounds penetrated twp layers of sheetmetal. Shotgun rounds, even 00 buck, didn’t penetrate well, but slugs were fairly decent. 5.56mm steel core was stopped by the engine block but would easily penetrate everywhere else. Bottom line, the engine block provides some cover, everywhere else is only concealment.

In testing during one swat achool, 9mm ball would penetrate and exit the opposite side, passing through car doors. HP's were barely getting into the passenger compartment reliably. 45 ball, through one door, dimpling the opposite side with very few passing through both doors [ but some did but not enough energy left to do much damage..

I never considered any portion of an automobile other than the engine block as
"cover" and everything else as nothing more than "concealment."

Again I am talking from a long time ago(retired 1993 from Leo work) We were taught that the wheel components brake, wheels would provide some protection from rounds. Also engine block.
