Who can tell me about this revolver?

It's just sitting on the dresser in my room at my cousin-in-law's and I'm curious. All they know is that they picked it up in this condition about 40 years ago on a trip. The End.

Hey, HSD and BH, I'm sorry but I don't have a clue to help identify that old revolver. It's interesting and HSD's photos are detailed and excellent but I don't even have a guess. (It appears it may have been in a fire sometime in it's life????)

There may be an antique revolver forum somewhere on the internet that could shed some light. (I've seen guys recognize and identify old revolvers and pistols on the military handgun forum I frequent that were in way worse shape and with fewer and poorer photos. So, there's hope.)

It is a Merwin Hulbert Revolver. Looks like Frontier Model, 1st variation, so it probably dates from 1876-1878.

Should be chambered in 44 Merwin & Hulbert (44-30).

They went out of business in 1891.
