Satellite image shows 'ISIS-infested' island bombed by US reduced to smoking craters

A satellite image taken this week shows the aftermath of a massive U.S. bombing campaign against an “ISIS-infested” island in northern Iraq.

American jets dropped more than 80,000 pounds of laser-guided bombs on Qanus Island on Tuesday. The new image from Planet Labs, Inc., shows smoking craters in decimated areas that were previously covered in green foliage and forest.

It's understandable to bomb that target using F-15E Strike Eagles against a temporary base for terrorists, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to use a 5th generation fighter like the F-35A on such a low tech ground target unless the USAF is just trying to show how their super expensive new "stealth" aircraft got to play in the sandbox, too. It's a bit like using a tactical nuke to eradicate mosquitoes but hey, "lookie what we can do!"

One B1-B could have delivered the entire bomb load. Maybe they had some pilots who needed air time.

Testing new equipment in live theaters will always happen. Especially when there is very little risk for it to be destroyed or captured.

Can't they just drop a few of these new fangled sex dolls that look pretty good but are programmed to screech like Hillary Clinton? Maybe drop 3 dozen of them and the Navy can pick the ISIS dudes off 1 by 1 as they bail off the island and swim for the mainland.

Im good with it, I don't know much about military strategy and tactics, but I can see making an argument to get the guys in some of your best fighters some real live action and experience. Sure, you don't expect them to send up a modern MIG or have state of the art SAM batteries on the island, but its still probably good practice and experience for a newer generation fighter/bomber plane and the crews in them.

Article says the strikes killed about 25 bad guys. How many millions of dollars did we waste to accomplish that?
I’m sorry but I’m past the point of tired of these two endless ‘wars’ in Iraq and Afg. We can continue to bomb the crap outta those two counties for another century and will still have accomplished nothing. If and when we finally leave both will fall right back into the same thing they were before we ever went there which is archaic tribal warfare. The Russians held no punches and had no rules and accomplished nothing in Afg. We are conducting ourselves much more politely than they did and are expecting what EXACTLY? It’s long last time to swallow our pride, leave those two crap holes and come home. Not one more drop of American blood or one more American dollar needs to be wasted there.
No clear enemy. No clear goal. No clear mission. WTF aware we still doing there and when is Trump going to honor his campaign promise of ending things there?
