"Dad", "Amy" and the idiot with the "advice" are all fabricated.

The only part that actually is true is the idiot part.
The other real part and this is the problem. All the seeds that it drops into the malleable minds of the readers.

Would that it were true, but Ask Amy is a nationally syndicated column. She may have made up the letter, but I doubt it. Truth is stranger than fiction.

How did Dad find out she has a gun?
    Does he search her room?

I'd imagine that Dad, being the homeowner and "Alpha Male" of the house believed he had the right to search... "His House.... His Rules...."

All the more reason for her to leave and get her own place.

Glad to see you used quotation marks. Calling that dude an "alpha male" for real would be more than a bit of a stretch.

No quotes needed on that one.

It's the dad's house. He can make it a GFZ if he wants.
In this case, the daughter needs to move out for many reasons.

    - Living with that kind of stress and judgement isn't good. Even a ratty studio apartment to call her own would be a step up. Truth be told (back in the day of course!) I saw many a girls' studio apartment and they were done up quite nicely.

    - Dear old dad isn't willing to defend his property and his loved ones effectively. Generally people whom are anti-gun lack other tools and techniques for defense. I doubt dear old Dad is a BJJ or krav practitioner.

It’s a wonder she turned out OK with that pitiful SOB for a dad.
