    Memorial to the fallen!

I served but not in combat and during peacetime. Still, I've always tried to honor those who gave all, never having the opportunity to take off their uniform as I did. I also have always tried to educate others who never served what Memorial Day is about.

I just watched a program last night called Modern Warriors hosted by Pete Hegseth of FNC, a post 9/11 warrior himself talking with twin brothers Marcus (Lone Survivor of Operation Red Wing) and Morgan Luttrell, both Navy Seals accompanied by two other post 9/11 warriors, all talking about many subjects relative to those who served. One thing that Marcus and Morgan said about their fallen brothers in arms and echoed by the others on the program about Memorial Day really stuck with me went something like this (paraphrasing):

"If you want to honor the fallen, go ahead and have a big party, cookout, whatever, but do it in the name of someone who didn't come back; do it to celebrate their life and honor their sacrifice for the freedoms we continue to enjoy."

The program is here if you care to watch it.

Here's a tribute video in next post from a respectful flyboy. . .

BeerHunter mentioned serving in peacetime. I think it's worth pointing out that merely serving in the military is dangerous business, even in peacetime.

During my two years aboard the USS Independence, we lost four men... all due to peacetime incidents involving routine operations. Ironically, we lost none in the Persian Gulf (Operation Desert Shield). Aircraft carriers are an inherently dangerous place to be.

BH. you just had to do it didn't you? Of course you did. You put the bagpipes up right after Angel Flight..... Thank you sir!

2 songs eminently worthy of the blurry screen. Proof that there are times when tears are absolutely appropriate. And thank you for your service. And thanks to all that gave their all and didn't make it home. 'Tis a debt that can never be repaid but remembered forever.

Yes it is my friend. In fact, it's educational to compare non-combat losses to combat losses even in wartime.
