I used to own a 4” S&W model 686 back in the late 80s and early 90s. I ended up selling it to a coworker of mine, and I’ve regretted it ever since. Well, I came across this new 5” model 686 Plus (7 rounds) with unfluted cylinder and wood grips. I just couldn’t leave without it, so I welcomed it to the family. I’m looking forward to a range session. My 4” version was a tack driver, so I have high hopes for this one.

Me likey!

I've always thought 5" is the perfect length for a revolver.

Your is beautiful and I'm sure your going to enjoy looking at it as well as shooting it.

I use Hornady custom 158 gr. xtp. The store owner recommended it. He also sold me a box of federal premium 130 gr. hydro shok "low recoil" because he said I am old like him and the other might be "to tough ". Yea,right. I have a question as well. Is there a reason for the unfluted cylinder or is it just for looks.

I also sold my 4" 686. A big mistake. Wish i had kept it. If god allowed me to have only one handgun...i'd want the 686. i have a 642 38cal. and a 22 cal semi auto S%W trail pistol.
Welcome to FCC from Palm Beach County, cwater1471! :wave

Agree that if I'd had one and sold it, I know I'd regret it, too. One of those revolvers is on my list!

Since this was your first post to FCC, now would be a really good time to also go back and post you're own Introduction thread to FCC so the members get to know you. You can do that by going to the Introduce Yourself section of The Front Office and start your very own introduction thread. Then you'll find that lots of other FCC members will know to chime in to properly welcome you to the forum, and will be more responsive in answering questions!

In case you weren't aware, you can stay current on pertinent Florida Statutes regarding use of force and firearms law by going right to the source using these links for Chapter 776 - Justifiable Use of Force and Chapter 790 - Weapons and Firearms. I'd also like to suggest you obtain your own copy of FLORIDA FIREARMS Law, Use & Ownership by Jon Gutmacher!

Finally, I would like to recommend you consider joining Florida Carry and join the effort to protect the rights of Floridians to keep and bear arms!

Again, welcome to FCC! :grin

That’s a beauty Caleb, I wish S&W would stop manufacturing with the lock. For now I’ll have to live with it. I’m hoping I’ll be able to try it out this weekend.
