Eligibility vs Actual Issuance

Okay so to start off, I have taken the "eligibility quiz" from the FDoAs website. I answered yes to the question regarding having adjudication of guilt withheld on a felony.
Details: Not going to go into depth but, 5 years ago I got caught in some stupid stuff, bad situation all around, ended up with 3 C felonies and 1 D (all at once). However, I was a youthful offender, adjudication of guilt was withheld, and the record was sealed. Probation was terminated early due to meeting all conditions/good behavior. This was in NY.
Fast forward to now, I am a university student pursuing Law/Biology. 3.75gpa, have not gotten a ticket since 2014 (knock on wood), etc - in other words turned my life around and got back on track.
So here's where my question comes in - I can lawfully own a firearm, my rights were restored with the Y/O, adjudication/sealing, and I enjoy competitions and going to the range as well as learning about firearms (have always been interested in the military, both grandfathers are wwII veterans.).
However, even though I qualify, what are the chances of me getting the permit? I want to follow the the law to the T and I know all the documentation I need to file, I'm just wondering if anyone has any perspective on whether or not it's worth applying for. I would rather do it properly the first time than get my hopes up and be rejected. I'm also curious because I am not 100% sure of career choice right now, but may want to do something LE related, plus my parents are getting older and I need to be able to care for and protect them.
Thanks for reading! If there are any attorneys recommended, if that would be helpful, please do let me know, I am in Dade county area.

I'm not a lawyer if you bought a gun lately then I would say have your paper work ready and roll the dice. Lucky for you there are lawyers that are members here just wait for one to give you a better answer . Good luck and welcome from Lakeland.

Thanks!
Yes I have been browsing the site and finally made a membership. The only confusing thing I've found is people get a CCW then get denied for a purchase or vice versa, which is why I'm wondering. At least I know as much that I dont have the first issue of having purchase denied because all my paperwork comes back clean, obviously I would have to give them the disposition though.

Welcome to FCC from Palm Beach County, LaPolilla! :wave

Congratulations on turning your life around and laudable aspirations for your future military and/or law enforcement career path. I am not a lawyer and cannot give clear advice on this, but I do encourage you to seek the advice of one knowledgeable in Florida Firearms Law. FWIW, I don't believe the NICS check for a firearms purchase and the FDLE background check for the FLCWL are exactly the same. My google-foo turned up this, but your situation with an application for a FLCWL is likely dependent upon your specific situation in NY and doubtful something that can be resolved here in an open forum. I really wish you great success and hope you keep us informed on your progress!

Since this was your first post to FCC, now would be a really good time to also go back and post you're own Introduction thread to FCC so the members get to know you. You can do that by going to the Introduce Yourself section of The Front Office and start your very own introduction thread. Then you'll find that lots of other FCC members will know to chime in to properly welcome you to the forum, and will be more responsive in answering questions!

In case you weren't aware, you can stay current on pertinent Florida Statutes regarding use of force and firearms law by going right to the source using these links for Chapter 776 - Justifiable Use of Force and Chapter 790 - Weapons and Firearms. I'd also like to suggest you obtain your own copy of FLORIDA FIREARMS Law, Use & Ownership by Jon Gutmacher!

Finally, I would like to recommend you consider joining Florida Carry and join the effort to protect the rights of Floridians to keep and bear arms!

Again, welcome to FCC! :grin

Thank you!
Just posted over there on the intro. Definitely would like to speak to an attorney regarding this though, but whatever advice is welcomed.

I am not a lawyer either, but my understanding is that if you can legally own a firearm in Florida, you qualify for a Concealed Carry License.
Florida is a "shall issue" state. If you qualify, they can not deny you the license.

I'm not sure if that's the question you are asking, but from your post I gather that you have successfully purchased firearms with a background check, so you should be 'good'.
There are 2A attorneys / experts here who will chime in..

Thank you,
Yes that definitely clears up some for me; I wasnt sure what shall issue meant/whether it was purely objective vs subjective. Good to know there are attorneys here as well as I may want to make sure I have everything in order before proceeding.

Agree with Earl007. Have the paperwork ready. Do not volunteer it unless you are asked. This is the best way to deal with ANY government agency. Give them what they require. Give them no MORE than what they require. Giving them information that they have not specifically asked for only encourages them to look into things that they had not planned on looking into.

Good luck.
