This thing is dangerous to the person that owns it.
    Cell phone rings.
Owner picks up the wrong one.
Boom, Shoots themselves in the ear.
    Yep, A dangerous item.

I put this item in the same category as pen guns that have to be opened to operate. Hidden in plain sight, like the pen in a shirt pocket. Neither was designed to be a primary, both may be taken into npe's without undue attention/notice.

They both have a place in some situations as an alternative to not carrying a firearm at all.

    Makes one wonder:
What do you do when you encounter a "No Cellphones" sign?

Seems to me, this gem only doubles the places you can't carry.

I am usually hidden in plain sight,

I think the threat would be wishing they could breathe on the ground before I think I could get this thing deployed..

and if I have that much time to consider, I have already left the scene.

This seems more useful as an assassin's weapon than a defensive one.

I would assume it would be an NFA item as an AOW, much like the 'Stinger' 22 LR pens, and the umbrella shotguns.

People are constantly losing and dropping their cell phones...... I can picture a scenario where someone drops one of these, someone else picks it up and winds up shooting themselves or someone else.

Other than as a novelty, I don't see the attraction.
To speak without thinking is to shoot without aiming.

No nfa for the stinger or the cell phone gun necessary. They can't be fired without re-configuring them. I owned two stinger in 22lr and 25cal with no paperwork and sold them both decades later without nfa paperwork. I imagine the cell phone not being capable of firing without reconfiguring it will be no different.
