Self-defense against people is all well and good, but what about self-defense against dogs and other animals? Not all threats to man are from animals that go on two legs. Occasionally the four-legged variety pose grave dangers..

I will probably get rebuked for saying this, but................. I know there are dogs that bite and hurt people so I am not trying to act like there aren't. I have been an EMT on a 911 ambulance for almost 20 years. In that 20 years I have went to peoples homes on the rescue because they call 911 for whatever reason. Just for the record I have been bitten twice by dogs and both times it was the dang little dogs. Once it was a chihuahua, and the other time a mixed breed that was maybe 10 or 12 pounds. I usually try to make friends with the dogs by talking to them or holding out my hand. I have had big dogs stay away but never had one advance on me and bite, but them little ones will get you and they are quick too.

I hear you guitargain and you won't get any grief from me.

Regarding the article, to use a metaphor, I felt the information provided was more bark than bite.

I've owned attack trained dobermans, and quite a few other large dogs in my life; but the only dog that has ever bitten anyone is my wife's little chihuahua "peanut."

I used to walk from Young Circle to Tri-rail twice a day and had to go down 'Pit Bull Avenue'.
In the early mornings some owners would not put the leash on the dog for the morning deification and I did reach for my EDC a number of times.
Yes, Pit bulls are sweet and all but they can bite like a small Great White.
