The business is saying that they have no desire for the general public to have carte blanch to enter their premises while carrying firearms. Get it?
    That's not the problem.

The problem is posting a sign saying its a law, when it isn't. They also have no right to invade a person's privacy if they are carrying, and the CCW'er has no obligation to tell them they are carrying.

they obviously have the wrong mentality when they want to deal/sell guns but do not cater to the CCW crowd.

I do. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Unalienable.

A gun pretty much covers all three.

My legally concealed firearm has not and will not hurt anyone or anything unless a deadly encounter unfolds in front of me. It doesn't bother anyone, it doesn't make any noise, and it just may save my life, as well as the owner of the shop posting the gun free signs. I see absolutely no reason to disarm myself when not required by law.

Uh, wow. This thread blew up in the afternoon while I was at the strawberry festival.

Mac, for the simplest answer (which someone as obtuse as you will probably deliberately misunderstand ): it's not illegal, they claim it is, and that's rather insulting to me.

A local gun shop that has a no loaded firearms or CCW told me that it does not apply to people they know. In the past they have had idiots come in carrying concealed and talking to the clerk or another customer. They then draw their CCW to show the gun to the other person so they are now holding a loaded firearm in the store portion of the place (it has a range too). This IS a problem and we have all seen many of these idiots at the range or in gun stores. It is easier for them to post the sign than to have idiots waving loaded weapons around the store. As I said, after talking to them, they told me I can ignore the sign but if you bring in in concealed, leave it there. If you want to show it to someone, go out to your car (or in the range), unload it and bring it back in. This makes total sense to me.

That is perfectly fine and very common....but I've never seen any of those signs saying it's the law....

You think? That's one of the funniest statements I've read in a long time

I confess I don't read signs much. Having said that, I have only read some references to the law in: federal buildings, court, and tribal lands. The latest could be considered stretching the truth and the wording of those signs is given to interpretation. Private business? Nothing beyond no guns allowed, unloaded and locked back, no CC etc. More or less wording, never "it is by federal/state law".
