Friend, Pastor accidentally shot and killed yesterday

Good friend and pastor apparently shot and killed himself accidentally yesterday. His wife said he was cleaning his gun when she heard the gunshot in another room. He shot himself In the chest and died before he reached the hospital.

Sorry for your loss, MiklColt45, and the loss to the Reverend's family and congregation. From the article, he was a Vietnam Vet and an avid sportsman who was quite familiar with firearms. Just goes to show you, folks. You can never be too safe when handling firearms. Rest in Peace, Rev.

Heart breaking and we won't understand until we see him again. The more we drive, the more likely we are to be in an accident. The more we handle guns...and it could happen to the best most well trained.
    Human factor.
Thank you for sharing this sad story. Maybe it will save lives?

What a terrible tragedy. My condolences on the loss of your friend and pastor.

That is a real shame. Sincere condolences. It is a lesson to us all if we want to pay attention to it. The more familiar and "expert" we become with our firearms, the more likely that we get away from the fundamental admonition to always assume the gun is loaded, and check to make sure. I had a friend many years ago who did the same thing getting ready to clean a 44 magnum. I never could understand it because he was so knowledgeable when it came to guns. I guess that is the lesson. The more comfortable with them we are the more careful we have to be.
