Name:	1 Blade & Sheath1.jpg
Views:	11

ID:	14915" class="thumbnail" style="float:CONFIG" /> I am long overdue posting these pictures of the fantastic sheath that Panther Concealment created for my Perrin Military Bowie.

Awhile back, Jim and Scott built their "standard" custom sheath when I first purchased the blade and it is a quality sheath. However, I really like their Commodore design that eliminated the clip to the belt. I carry this IWB and the clip sometimes felt a bit restrictive or pulled a bit on the belt. This is definitely a factor in trying to position this rig around my gut rather than the result of a shortcoming in the sheath design.

Anyhow, Jim and Scott put together an incredible sheath that rides wherever I position it and stays put. Pulling the blade with either hand is unbelievably easy, yet the blade is held securely in the sheath. I don't know how they manage it, but they do. Especially noteworthy is the matching of the sheath to the scales - Jim cut it to allow a full hand on the blade without any contact/interference from the sheath. You don't even know the blade is in a sheath when grasping and drawing. The first two pictures show the Commodore sheath Jim and Scott first built and the second two pictures show the original sheath they built.

Guys, great job and many thanks for your dedication in building a true custom sheath. I cannot say enough about them that has not already been said before. Cheers BD

The ESEE Junglas

This is my anniversary present from my wife - wasn't a surprise as I picked it out, but at least there was no resistance. For the record, I ordered her a new set of kitchen cutlery for our anniversary - the Cold Steel Kitchen Classics block set.

The Junglas arrived yesterday. and I tore open the box like it was Christmas morning, since I was anxious.

One thing I need to say is that this is a big knife! 10.5 inch blade from 1095 steel that is .188 inch thick and a roughly 6 inch Micarta handle around the full tang that is .88 inch thick, and it weighs in at a whopping 22.5 ounces without the sheath. I was concerned about the weight and handle thickness while considering the purchase. But let me say that the handle fits my hands great, and provides plenty of room. And even though it is heavy, it is extremely well balanced (not overly blade heavy), so it actually feels lighter in the hand than it would seem. The blade also came very sharp out of the box.

The Junglas also comes with a factory kydex sheath. Most of the other ESEE knives like the 3, 4, 5, and 6 come with a plastic molded sheath, but the Junglas sheath is a one piece, folded kydex sheath with a Cordura backing that allows for belt carry and is MOLLE compatible. There are also several mounting holes on both sides of the sheath. It is, in my opinion, the best factory kydex sheath I've ever received (still doesn't beat custom, but this makes the need for custom much less).

I haven't had a chance to take this outdoors yet, but I am looking forward to being able to to put it through some camp chores like wood processing.

Overall, even though I really wanted it, but was apprehensive about the size and weight, the ESEE Junglas has surpassed all of my expectations. I even strapped it on my flimsy dress belt with slacks this morning, and it was actually rather comfy - my belt didn't even sag.

This is my first ESEE product, but it probably won't be my last. It is a quality blade and I am sure it serve its purpose without flaws. ESEE also has a great warranty, just in case.

Okay - Probably not what you are expecting. I remember my father having a small Case folder when I was around 8 years old. I really loved that thing and wished I still had it...especially since he is no longer around. For a while now, I've been wanting to get one and I finally did. Below is a stock photo of the knife I got. It's a Case Mini Copper Lock in Amber Bone. The fit & finish is outstanding and the little blade came razor sharp. Heck, I just like looking at it. I'm carrying this in my pocket now as a small utility blade for daily tasks that come up. The bolsters are polished stainless with brass pins and brass liner...the picture doesn't do it justice.

I recently purchased a Spyderco Perrin at a great price (Thank you Cutlery Shoppe) and absolutely HATED the included sheath...

Contacted the Wonderful guys at Panther Concealment (Jim and Scott) and they made me an awesome carbon fiber design for it, it is simply SUPERB!

Makes the stock sheath look like a toy, and outperforms it by leaps and bounds!

So happy, took me a while to get around to posting this, but as many have said before Panther Concealment is THE BEST for all your sheath and holster needs.

Pics below, and my MANY MANY thanks to Jim and Scott for a job WELL DONE!

One of my uncles was a Army Air Corp navigator during WWII. For a while he was based in the Philippines. The local artisans would make souvenirs for the GI's using scrounged military material. I have no idea what the blade steel was recycled from, but it seems very hard and it takes a nice sharp edge. The leather sheath came with it. It originally had a raw steel finish. Years ago I went nuts with a bottle of touch-up bluing. This is a nasty looking thing with an interesting history. Enjoy!

Below is a link to a video featuring Bill Bagwell himself demonstrating his knife making artistry. The video shows him forging, grinding and sharpening (on a Hell's Belles). The video is very informative and impressive!
