In another thread, a response letter from Dear Abby recommended a change from handguns to long guns to solve a dilemma faced by the original letter writer. Her reply got me thinking. I have had the opportunity to fire a number of rifles from 22 to 30-06. The only two calibers that caused me 'discomfort' are the 30-06 and 8mm Mauser. The following calibers 8mm, 7.62x39, 357 mag, 5.56, 30-30, 30 carbine, and 7.62x54r (Mosin recoil is ZERO issue for me) are already in house. Based on this info, what caliber and what rifle would you suggest?

It will most likely not be used for hunting, just target.

Thanks.

Does anyone have any experience with a SIG 556 Classic? I've started looking at them as sort of a wish list type of item. If I were to purchase one, it wouldn't be until a few months from now (Octoberish), but I'm still in my early stages of the research.

Specifically, I would like to know how it compares to a higher tier AR in regards to:

Accuracy
Ergonomics
Reliability
Ease of Maintenance and cleaning
Availability of spare parts / types of common wear parts needed on hand

This is not a case of "either or" since I am not trying to decide to purchase one or the other. Only a matter of is one worth having if I already have the other. Also, I must state that I am considering this rifle for my wife. She currently has an M4gery hand-me-down from me after I went with a .308 MBR. She doesn't have nearly the amount of time on the range with the AR as I do, so it's not like she has developed any major memory with the AR. Also, she really likes the SIG brand, and just about every one of her handguns is a SIG of some kind (almost, but not all of them).

I have to admit, I think the 566 Classic just looks cool, and from what I have found so far, it seems to have the best of bother worlds - AR accuracy, and AK dependability, reliability, and ease of maintenance.

Just looking for some additonal data points.

Thanks.

This took place at one of our Texas Triggers spring events. The instruction/explanation footage of the M107 was during the long range portion of the weekend. Ryan's actual shot came at the end of the day after constant urging and egging on by our guests and staff to see him shoot the Barrett off-hand. He agreed to do it, but really didn't want to be filmed. I coaxed him into allowing us to roll tape... Now he's glad I did. - Colby Donaldson
