Yesterday the AMA(American Medical Association) re-classified obesity as a disease. This will bring on a court fight from insurance companies who do not want to "treat" obese people. However, the clout of the AMA will prevail, a deal will be reached, and obesity will be a treatable condition. One third of the population is clearly obese, two thirds are classified as overweight. As weight issues will now be medically treatable, these same issues will be tied to mental disorders. Mental disorders are being tied to Rights, or loss of Rights, to own firearms daily. Realistically, with the AMA re-classifying obesity as a treatable disease, the rules on firearm ownership change for every individual who gets treated for weight. The rules may even change if the person is overweight and does not get treatment. Clearly two thirds of the population of the USA is in the spotlight here. This is just a heads up, I'm not here to debate. I pay people to gather information and form well processed opinions, I feel this one is important enough to post. We feel the real fight for gun Rights will eventually turn to medical records and we will not recognize privacy laws, Washington itself does not recognize privacy laws. Keep your heads up, I posted months ago about Obama and his multi pointed assault on gun Rights, it is long from over regardless of proposed laws that got knocked down earlier this year. With the AMA's decision, no Democrat seats are jeopardized, the AMA is the bad guy.

Hey folks,

I just wanted to drop a note to let you know I'm covering the George Zimmerman trial down in Florida for one of the internet's largest legal blogs, Legal Insurrection.

Some of you may know me as a lawyer with a practice specializing in the law of self defense, others as that guy who shoots the IDPA matches wearing a suit jacket along with his cargo pants.

In any case, if you're tired of the incredibly biased mainstream media coverage (or should I call it mis-coverage) of the Zimmerman case, consider taking a look at my coverage of the trial and analysis of the legal issues, all from the perspective of a gun guy who has CCW'd every day of his adult life.

It is, of course, all entirely free, and Legal Insurrection doesn't sell anything.

Past coverage (up through last night's daily wrap-up post) can be found here: http://bit.ly/15KXK1a

Today's live coverage will be added to that list when Court goes into session at 9AM.

Thanks for your consideration!

Andrew

As a new business owner, I was short on cash last month and needed to send one of my guns to a local pawn shop.
I picked my Vaquero and got the money I needed to make until some real estate deals closed and the money hit the account.

So today I go back to the pawnshop to get my Vaquero and am handed a background sheet. Since the weapon was out of my hands they explained they had to run another check to give it to me and that added another $5 to the total.

I passed of course and was glad to get it back in my hands.

I changed Doctors and made my first appointment yesterday. During the intake process I filled in a 12 page new patient "BOOK". Not once was I asked if I had access to or did I own a gun or guns. Then when I was directed into the back room and the Nurse came in to do the temp, BP, pulse and oxygen check she asked me if I owned any Guns. Thinking I am a US citizen and enjoy being under the guidelines of the Constitution of the United States of America, I answered, "NO."

Now I know DOCS VS. GLOCKS (FAILED): Repeals the 2011 "docs vs. glocks" law that banned doctors from asking patients about guns. (SB 314/HB 4017)

They can ask all they wish to ask. I do not own any guns. I signed them all over to my dog Jake. He lets me borrow them to practice with.

Mainly for snakes and other pesky animals. Not really looking to set up a gun range or anything. Although it would be good to know for all aspects of shooting just in case. I know at least 3 of the 4 properties that touch mine are LEO. So its not something i wanna take lightly. However, i do hear firearms going off on a someone regular basis.

I did a google search but didnt find enough info to be comfortable.

What prompted the 1994 "assault weapons ban" and high cap magazines? I did some google searching and came up dry. Sadly, I was not into politics then (I just turned 21 and had some party years). I know this didn't have an effect on crime, simply trying to understand why and how it came to pass. And did the NRA step up the way they did this year? Thank you in advance.

The Pinellas County Sheriffs department has forced private sellers to perform background checks at a local gun show. The fine for not complying was up to $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail. The private sellers were forced to provide a background check for any person that did not have a valid Florida concealed carry permit. Supposedly they are enforcing an old, forgotten ordinance, but doesn't pre-emption make that ordinance null and void?

Doesn't this fly in the face of statute 790.33? Is this even legal?

When an employer (huge corporation, very anti-firearm) pulls a background check...are they able to access information regarding CCW license? How much does money talk? I guess technically they could obtain the info and use another reason not to hire or even to fire without the (prospective) employee being any the wiser to the actual reason. :dunno
Thanks,

Just received a notification from NAGR that the subject legislation has passed the State Senate and is on Governor Scott's desk for approval.

Anyone know what this is all about?

I gather it has provisions (presumably a compromise worked out with Marion Hammer) about people voluntarily seeking mental health help being put in a database (controlled by?, distributed to?) which could deny them the right to own firearms without going through due process.

Have I been missing discussion of this?
Is it as anti- as it seems to be?
Is this status correct?

What's going on?
