Although CC is prohibited in a courthouse, what about a courthouse annex? Here in St. John's County, our courthouse annex has a sign saying "unauthorized weapons prohibited" and has FL Statute CH 790 at the bottom. As I was on my way to the naval station, I wasn't carrying. This annex is really a DMV/Tax Collector. No judge, no courtroom, etc. There is an attached sheriff's office which you enter through a separate door. I read through the entire statute and it did not any mention of a "courthouse annex". Anyone looked into this before?

The other day I went to my local water department in my city hall to take care of an issue. When I entered I was surprised to find that we had to go through a metal detector, and a uniformed armed officer was at the front desk. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle so I went back to my car and locked up my firearm, then went back in to take care of business. I was pissed that I had been intimidated into disarming in order to enter city hall, which I believe I have every right to enter while CC'ing as I am duly permitted. Am I correct in this assumption? Could I have pressed my point (respectfully of course) if I was denied access or forced to show my defensive weapon? I just didn't think it would be worth the hassle, but I HATE to disarm because of intimidation.

I am currently in Columbus, Ga. My son is graduating BCT from Ft. Benning. He has a 36 hour pass before he returns to complete the rest of his OSUT. I have my CCW with me, and averted the on base issue by checking in to the hotel before I picked him up be leaving it in the room. However, I realized this morning that I have a problem returning him. I will be checked out of the hotel, and have no place to hold my CCW. Fortunately, the hotel has a safe in which they are allowing me to hold my weapon while I get him back on base. The front desk person didn't even flinch when I asked. Must be a common thing.

The purpose of my post is to remind all to THOROUGHLY plan out each stage of your trip.

Is it legal to OC a magazine while the your pistol itself remains concealed?

Let's say your pistol is either in your pocket (in a quality pocket holster of course!) or a Thunderwear / SmartCarry and thus doesn't require a cover garment, but you have a magazine carrier with a spare mag on your belt. This is normally concealed by a T-shirt (or whatever) but you're walking on the beach and you decide you'd really rather take your shirt off and increase your vitamin D levels. Now the spare magazine is no longer concealed. Is this legal?

No, you don't have any fishing gear or bait; you're just going for a walk.

I know we go to Forums to hear others' opinions. However, if we want to know if something is legal or not....research it....get opinions......ask a legal expert.....then make a decision. Even an attorney can tell you something is legal but when you go to court the judge/jury says it isn't. It's a gamble. Like it or not a LEO can relieve you of a firearm if they want to. You may not like it, and have a tough time getting it back, but that's the way it is. No one on these Forums is going to represent you in court. Opinions are like what.........? And everyone has got one.

Hello Everyone

I am not sure if this is where it goes but I thought it worth sharing for those in similar situations. I live in Apopka FL, near Orlando

A while back my home was broken into in the middle of the day while my wife and I were out. We were still in the process of buying a safe so my favorite Glock was in a drawer by my bed. Of course it was gone when I got home. We filed the police report and did everything we needed to do. Felt sick that not only my safety was violoated but that some criminal out there had a gun, my gun.

A couple months later I received a call from the Apopka PD that my gun had been found in the back of an abandoned car in a not so nice part of town. The officer said they needed to do their thing and then I would be getting it back. Well it was not in the hands of the Apopka PD but the Eatonville PD. So I waited the 3 months they told me to wait then called. She said that in 3 more months I could come pick it up. I called in 3 months and I was told how busy she was and needed to get caught up but "soon" I would be able to come get it. I got that same excuse for 6 months.

Finally I just randomly showed up at the very small station and said I was ready to pick up my gun. 10 minutes later it was back in my possession. Thank God! All is right with the world.

I know I got very lucky but I wanted to share some hope if others are in the same position. Good day all

Here is a picture of the No Guns/Weapons sign at the enterance to the place that works on and builds my prosthetic leg. Has some sort of legal looking number at the bottom of the sign. I need to write it down and look in my law book and see if it references anything. The main building on these grounds is part of the VA Hospital but the build in the back where my prosthetic doctor is is in the same parking lot but not part of the VA building. I'm not sure if I can legally care my CCW onto these grounds. I've talked to my doc about it and she carries to work.

I just got an email from someone who was mugged at a local Walgreens in Fort Lauderdale. Short verion (I'll include scrubbed original email below) she was pushed against a wall and her purse was ripped away from her.

This got me thinking. I did tell her that I'm a strong proponent of concealed carry, but under the circumstances it may have just ended with her getting her purse and weapon taken.

My first instinct is that the best defense could have been better situational awareness, which is true, although 100% immunity verse surprise is not possible.

Mostly for the woman out there, do most woman carry in their purse? If so, given that the purse is often the target, what would you have done? How can this be better defended against?

Here is the original email. I redacted some info. Side note: I almost didn't read this email, I've been working in fraud prevention for years and deal with a lot of social engineering, and this email sounds similar to the technique some use when they hack someone's email and then beg friends to send them money overseas.

Dear Shawn,

We met last week at ****.

I don't even know how to tell you this. Last night, I was the victim of a strong-armed robbery at a Walgreens here in Fort Lauderdale. As I was entering the store, a man ran at me and slammed me into the cement wall outside and pinned me against it. My purse was over my shoulder and my arm was pinned against the building - he kept tearing at my purse until the straps tore. I screamed and screamed and even though three other men were standing outside, no one helped me. My arm is badly bruised and brush burned from where he kept ripping the straps, but physically I am alright other than that. After he ran away with my purse, I went into Walgreens - my legs were shaking so badly I could hardly walk. The police came and took pictures and made a report. In my purse was my maroon rosary pouch, containing the rosary my Grandma gave me in third grade and your Miraculous medal. A wallet, my checkbook, my court ID and keys, my prescription medication, my Rosary book and a necklace I'd been given for Christmas were also inside. I feel just terrible, Shawn. About your medal most of all. I absolutely will and want to replace it for you - but I also know it was very special to you from a very special source. I hope there is a way for me to get you one just like the one you had, hopefully from the same source.

The man who attacked me tried to use my credit card to withdraw $500 in Dania Beach at a Chase ATM 40 minutes after the robbery. A woman tried to cash one of my checks at a check cashing store in Dania Beach around noon today, and the lady who works at the check cashing store was suspicious and called my bank, who called my Dad, who called me, and said she would call the police if I gave her permission. I did so immediately. She called the police and they arrived in time to apprehend the woman. Thanks be to God. She has been arrested. I hope she tells them the identity of the man who attacked me lastnight. But I am not at all hopeful that I will get any of my belongings back.
