Spent a couple of ninterupted hours tonight getting my new lock n load setup and my dies adjusted for 380 auto. My wife's sig 238 has a voracious apetite and $30 boxes is just not cutting it.

Took me about 20 dummy cartridges to get my rcbs sizing and seating dies dialed in. Chose to use a Lee fcd die for final size and crimp. Every round passes a chamber gauge check with a plunk.

Loading 100 gr truncated flat lead over 2.8 gr of titegroup with sb primers and mixed brass.

Decided to purchase and use one of those powder funnel inserts as seen on youtube. Works as advertised and puts just eough bell on case mouth when dumping powder to easily place a bullet on top.

I have a crazy accurate digital scale that measurs grains down to 2 decimal places. The Hornady powder drop with pistol rotor installed throws extremely consistant all the way down at 2.8. After only loading 100 rounds, i can tell its a much better system than he dillon powder measure.

Loving the quick change die feature. It just works.

Anyone else running one of these machines?

Anyone here tried this primer powered ammo? Reason I'm asking is that we are planning to get my kid his first rifle, a Cricket, and I've seen people in YouTube firing this round in there garage, backyard, and heck even in there living room (provided with a proper backstop of course). He has shot my Savage Mark II FVSR in an outdoor range before, but I want to be able to continually reinforce proper gun handling, safety, and marksmanship in the convenience of our garage (gotta old recliner and a couple phone books as backstops)

According to this article, one year ago .22 lr ammunition was around $21 to $23 per 500 rounds now they report it is around $100 to $135 for 500 rounds. That is approximately a 400% increase.

I was just discussing this with my brother this weekend on the phone about if he ever thought he would see the day when even shooting .22 lr ammo would be expensive, and having second thoughts of shooting it at all because of it being so scarce on the shelves.

I use a Little Dandy powder measure, and like it. However what I do NOT like is the fact that the rotors are 12 bucks each, there are 26 of them, and they seldom throw the charge on the chart.
After modifying one with JB Steelstick and a rasp bit to get the 5.1 gr of 231 I wanted, I started thinking...if I load a different weight bullet or many different type bullets, this is gonna suck purple possum p*cker. Gotta be a better, cheaper way. There is.
A guy from North Carolina who goes by the name Bailey Boats on the handloader forums makes a stainless steel adjustable rotor...49 bucks shipped. It has a spring loaded insert in it...all you do is throw some charges, then leave the cavity pointed down and take the tool (supplied..it's like an anodized socket adaptor for a 1/4" socket) and turn it clockwise to increase the charge, or counter clockwise to decrease the charge.
It took me less than five minutes to install the rotor (after seasoning it with graphite), throw charges and get to exactly 5.1 grains of Winchester 231 time after time. Reason I like the Little Dandy is, it can either mount in a powder measure stand, or if you prefer, you can put your cases in loading blocks and use it handheld to charge cases..it's about the size of a small bong pipe (for all you dopers) and holds about a pound of ball powder. I'm pleased.

Out

The reason I ask is, I purchased some 9mm ammo from Matt around the beginning of March and was told it would ship in around 30-45 days.

According to Mark Keefe from the NRA, all of the major American ammunition companies have reported that they have their plants working full out, and are shipping more ammunition than they ever have before.

He reports that the numbers for government sales are fixed and are in low single digits of overall production, and the amount going to the consumer marketplace is way up.

According to him the cause of the current dilemma is increased demand, which is higher than has ever been seen before. Ammunition production is reaching distribution channels, but once it gets there, it is purchased by "locusts with credit cards".
CCI 300 large pistol primer
COAL (cartridge over all length) 1.260

from 25 yards at the steel range, I was consistently hitting COM on the silouhette targets, and fairly consistent at hitting the BG's head peeking over the hostages shoulder. This was all rapid fire, drawing from holster. I would have done my usual 10 yards away kill 'em all drill, but other shooters were there before me, and they were shooting from the covered benches. First time with the reloads out of the Wilson, and as expected, much better accuracy.
Side note. I used JB Weld Steelstick and a rasp bit to work a rotor for my Little Dandy so it throws 5.0-5.1 every throw. I dont want to buy all 26 rotors and modify them, so I found a guy who makes custom adjustable SS rotors for that measure. The range for 231 powder for example is 2.3 gr to 13 gr. Similar results for other powders. 49 bucks shipped. Each rotor from RCBS is 12 bucks plus shipping, so I'm pleased

I am interested in picking up a small pistol loaded with snake ammo. This will only be used for snakes and maybe plinking, so I'm thinking a derranger will do well. The only experience I have had with snake ammo was with a .22. What is a good snake round? What caliber? Last night a copperhead was right next to myself and my dog while going for a walk. Luckily my pup didn't see it, and I was able to get her out of harms way. I also thought of a collapsable baton, but looking for a longer reach. Thanks!
