I was trained a long time ago with what I would consider a revolver grip. Strong hand thumb down, and support hand encompassing the strong hand, locking the thumb and fingers down onto the grip. Recently i have been working diligently to adopt the more modern pistol grip of flagged thumbs, strong thumb over support thumb and both basically pointed toward the target. I am trying to emulalate that from the book "surgical speed shooting", in that the support hand fingers encompass the strong hand fingers and the support palm is pressed into the grip so that the grip is fully encompassed by both hands. 40% grip on strong hand, 60% on support hand.

Here's my problem - when I try to press my palm into the grip and squeeze, my palm moves forward and starts squeezing my strong hand fingers forward off the grip. I actually have less control over the pistol than I did with my old grip. I can see this grip being better for quick target aquisition, but the gun is jumping within my grip upon recoil, so follow up shots required re-aquiring my grip. Unacceptable.

I recently aquired a kahr cw45, so being light and reasonably small it has really pointed out how poorly I'm controlling recoil. I can get away with it with a 9mm, but the flaws in my grip are painfully obvious with the 45. I tried shooting with my old grip, and actually felt much more controlled.

Obviously I'm doing something wrong with the modern pistol grip. Any help will be applied and appreciated.

If you draw your Firearm, Are you going to JAIL?

Are you a Gun Owner or thinking of becoming a Gun Owner?

Do you take classes to further your shooting education and improve your skills in basics, tactical, shotgun or any of the others great classes offered by the excellent instructors here in Florida?

Do you practice at your local gun range or compete in any of the many shooting events around Florida to maintain or improve your level of competence in your shooting ability?

Whether you just keep a firearm at home for protection or you have your Florida Concealed Carry License and carry all the time, you need to know the responsibilities and consequences that go along with that Firearm.

IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW GOOD YOU ARE WITH YOUR FIREARM AT A CLASS, AT THE RANGE OR IN COMPETITION, IF YOU JUST SHOW YOUR GUN TO SCARE AWAY THE BAD GUY OR YOU ARE FORCED TO SHOOT YOUR GUN, YOU HAVE STARTED A CHAIN OF EVENTS THAT IS IRREVERSIBLE.

YOU WANT TO KNOW ALL THE RIGHT ANSWERS BEFORE THE POLICE SHOW UP. You need to know what to say or not to say and what to do. Once you’ve given up your rights, there’s NO WAY to get them back.

Here are some questions that almost everyone asks of themselves when they own a firearm.

1. Can I use deadly force to defend my property?
2. I’ve used deadly force and the police are on the scene, what do I do?
3. Can I exhibit my firearm to someone trespassing on my property to get them to leave?
4. Can I use deadly force to stop someone from breaking into my car or boat?

This class is sponsored by Tactical Firearms Academy, Inc.

The class is being taught by Frank Quintero Jr., Attorney at Law, who has over 20 years of experience in the areas of state and federal criminal law and civil litigation. I was told that I was short changing students because I would not allow appendix carry in any class nor would I recommend it to anyone. I told them I train people to survive and live not die.

Hi all:

One of my friends recently attended a 2-Day 'Performance Gun Fighting' course, put on my Reston Group down in St Augustine. They have another one coming up on Sept, so he asked me to go with him. That will be my birthday present this year. I've already reached out to this company to make sure a newbie like me will be welcome there, since the course description says, "Participants in this course should have a core understanding of marksmanship fundamentals and strong weapons handling skills." They said I'd be fine to take the course, since they start with basics, then ramp it up. My friend is just as much of a newbie as I am, and he did fine. He said there were other inexperienced folks there, too, and the experienced folks were pretty helpful.

I'm glad that this is happening a few months from now, so I have time to figure out what I need to buy in order to be prepared for the class. Their list of equipment requirements includes:
Rifle (I have an M&P 15)
Serviceable Pistol (I have a Glock 26)
3 Rifle Magazines (I have plenty :D )
Pouches for Rifle Magazines (they said 1 AR mag pouch is fine and belt-worn pouches work best for the course)
3 Pistol Magazines (I only have 2, so I need to buy at least 1 more, but I also need to stock up on these, too)
Pouches for Pistol Magazines (they said I should have 2 pistol mag pouches)
550 Rifle Rounds / 500 Pistol Rounds (go it)
Rifle Sling (see below)
Eye and Ear Protections (got it)
Serviceable Holster (see below)

Since I'm still pretty new at this, some of these items aren't too clear on what I need. They recommend a padded 2-point sling and pointed me to Blue Force Gear or VTAC. OK, I can find the sling, but what about attaching it to the rifle? What parts do I need to accomplish this? My AR has the standard forward grip, but I did install a bottom rail for a cheap/simple forward pistol grip, which I bought on http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...F8&psc=1Amazon. I also already have what I believe to be a swivel stud. But, I don't think there's anything on the butt area of the rifle.

As for the 'serviceable holster' for my Glock 26, what is considered 'serviceable'? What I have now is a very basic OWB leather belt holster. The only time I wear it is when I wear a coat. They said it would work, but it's not optimal. They suggested something like a Safariland ALS for the course. And, I'm assuming that any holsters I get would be similar to that (black, worn on the belt, etc). Any ideas on this?

I'm not trying to "gear up" and look like a cheesy tactical dude, but I am desiring to have sufficient equipment to be prepared to do this course. This kind of thing is probably something I'll do on an ongoing (but not too frequent) basis, just to have a fun man-hobby. I am married with 3 young daughters, so my guy-time is very limited. LOL

I hope I've been descriptive enough with this and I'm sorry if I placed this post in the wrong category. I look forward to your responses.

Requirements: Eye and ear protection; up to 2000 rounds of ammo if you shoot a high cap pistol or up to 1400 rounds for single stack firearms; as many mags/speed loaders as you have; a belt holster and an open mind.

Course description of skills covered:

1. The scoop draw
2. ½ hip-Elbow Up/Elbow Down: [EU/ED]
3. ¾ hip-hand/eye coordination with and without movement
4. Zipper
5. Bump-2 body and 1 head shot from the hip at 4 feet from the holster:
6. Quick Kill Hip: multiple threats from the hip
7. Compressed ready: two handed
8. Quick Kill: one and two handed
9. Sprint and Hits
10. Hiding behind a wall of bullets in-line and obliquely
11. Lateral movement to the threat in both directions using QK two and one handed
12. Shooting responses from behind you
13. EU/ED with movement
14. Enhanced Peripheral Vision drill
15. Point shoulder

A well made strong side holster and sturdy belt will be required for this course. We will be drawing from the holster 90% of the time all weekend. A holster will allow the students be able to re-holster an unloaded firearm and be safe once off the firing line while reloading mags/speed loaders without having to handle the firearm until returning to the line. No BH Serpa holsters on the range that weekend.

These skills are reactionary in nature, similar to having to draw from the holster out on the streets if one needs to defend themselves. I understand some may use a cross draw holster, or fanny pack, or perhaps pocket carry presently, but once students have completed the course, I believe they'll find the benefit of a good strong side outside or inside the waistband holster with their future carry requirements.

Kydex or leather is acceptable. I use both in classes and either will suffice equally with the skills covered.

If you want to secure your slot for this course, please respond here and make arrangements to get a deposit of 200.00 to myself through pm's or my email at:

If you're in on this one, throw your name up and we'll see how far this one goes or gets cancelled for lack of interest with the ammo shortages we've been experiencing.

Looking forward to being back in the sunshine state in a little cooler weather

These courses are not for the novice. If you have a problem with handgun manipulation, this would not be the course for you. We have fundamental courses available that cover that.
The courses have manuals and certificates based on test scores written and practical.

The courses cost 450.00 per course and you will need 500. rounds of ammo for each course.

If you are not exhausted at the end of the first day, I will be having a Intro to Low Light Shooting Class on Saturday Night that is already scheduled at no charge.

We have a money back guarantee on this course. If I don't drastically improve your defensive shooting skills, you get your money back at the end of the course, less cost of manuals, range and classroom
